President
California Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition

Thomas Lawson has been engaged in politics and public policy in and around the Capitol for 10 years. Prior to becoming president of the California Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, Lawson was the director of the Office of Legislative Affairs for California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris. He served as a high-level policy advisor to the Attorney General and senior staff, successfully navigating over 60 sponsored and supported bills through the legislative process. He honed his policy skills while working in the State Capitol, for both the Assembly and the Senate. In the Assembly, while serving three Speakers (Nuñez, Bass, and Pérez), he developed and implemented public affairs strategies for members of the Democratic Caucus. Also on behalf of the Speaker’s office he would analyze, track, and counsel Caucus members on committee and floor legislation. In his spare time, he sharpened his political campaign skills on several Assembly races, where he was an integral part in campaigns’ successes. Serving as the lead staff on Public Safety, Healthcare and Agriculture, he was influential in crafting a bill package that reflected the needs of the Central Valley. Lawson has also served as the outreach officer for the California Medical Association (CMA), a professional organization representing the physicians of the state of California.
