Bill Hughes
Bill Hughes entered Navy flight training immediately after graduating from college. He completed flight training in 1958 and spent the next year based in San Diego as a member of a helicopter anti-submarine squadron patrolling the Pacific. He then transferred to Rhode Island, the home base of VX-6, the Antarctic research support squadron. He spent the summer of 1960-61 in Antarctica flying airplanes and helicopters in support missions.
