Johnathon de Villier is a research analyst contributing to Navigant Research’s Energy Technologies program covering applications for blockchain in the energy sector and its intersections with key technology trends, from transactive energy and IoT to future mobility and the smart home. De Villier also covers microgrids and their role as part of an efficient and resilient grid system. His work focuses on the strategic implications of these technologies for utilities and other stakeholders with the aim of facilitating their transition to a digital and distributed future. Prior to joining Navigant Research, de Villier studied the effects of wildfires, climate change, and insect pests on the health and recovery of Western forests at the United States Department of Agriculture. He holds an MPA in environmental science and policy from Columbia University and a BA in biology and the classics from Bowdoin College.
