Michael O’Connell, MHA, FACMPE, FACHE is a health care consultant with The Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC, a best practices firm that uses a combination of research, technology, and consulting to improve the performance of health care organizations throughout the world. He currently serves as Interim Executive Director for Stanford Health Care’s University HealthCare Alliance, a medical foundation organized to operate and own medical clinics, a managed care organization, and an affiliated PA network. With 1,400 employees, 350 providers in 27 specialties, and 70 locations in the San Francisco East Bay area, he is a dyad partner with the Chief Medical Officer and provides executive leadership and strategic direction towards creation of a high performing medication foundation. Previously, he has worked in health systems, hospitals, and medical groups throughout the Midwest in numerous senior leadership roles. He is on the national ACMPE Certification Commission committee and has been in various leadership roles in ACMPE in the last decade, coaching and mentoring medical practice leaders in support of their professional development. He is a published author having written books and articles on healthcare and leadership development and has presented numerous times throughout the US on a diverse range of healthcare topics. He is board certified in medical practice management and an ACMPE Fellow and a respected thought leader in the medical practice management community.
