James Solomon
Subject Matter Expert and Training Director
National Safety Council
James A. Solomon is Subject Matter Expert and Training Director for the National Safety Council Defensive Driving Courses. He is a graduate of Murray State University with advanced training from Western Kentucky State University, Southeast Missouri State University, and the Institute for Reality Therapy. He has over 45 years of classroom teaching experience. He has held state credentials to teach history, social studies, and driver and traffic safety education in grades seven through twelve in Kentucky, Missouri, and New York. The Illinois Secretary of State approved him to train senior citizen motorists and multiple offenders. The Texas Education Association has approved him as a certified driving instructor and driver trainer instructor. He holds worldwide credentials for training instructors for National Safety Council courses for cars, trucks, tractor-trailers, buses, senior citizens, driver attitude modification, and police, ambulance, and fire apparatus driver trainers. He also worked in the development of the NSC’s Flagger Training Programs and the NSC’s Fleet Excellence Process. Working from the Council's headquarters office in Itasca, IL, he is responsible for the accuracy in development and implementation of instruction given in the National Safety Council - Defensive Driving Courses worldwide. He assists with the design and technical accuracy of all National Safety Council programs, videos, books, and periodicals, which deal with motor vehicles. He serves on the National Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and works closely with NSC’s Defensive Driving Courses International Advisory Committee. He is the NSC representative to the ASSE ANSI Z15.1 Committee.
