Dr. Eunsoo Shim is a senior vice president and the head of AI & SW Research Center, Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics. He has been leading research & development of a wide range of AI SW and HW technologies including neural processor, speech recognition, face recognition, and autonomous driving at Samsung. The noise-resilient top-notch speech recognition technologies developed under his leadership have been deployed in Samsung products since 2015. He has led the development of robust face authentication algorithms deployed in Samsung’s smart phones since 2017. He has led the development of Samsung’s autonomous driving technologies that passed the driving test supervised by a government agency and have been used for test driving on public roads in Korea since 2017. He worked on natural language analysis, wireless Internet protocols, multimedia networking technologies in the US before joining Samsung. He earned a Ph.D. and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering, respectively in 2004 and 1998 from Columbia University in NYC and a M.S. and a B.S. in Physics in 1991 and 1989 respectively from Seoul National University.
