My name is Dr. Colleen M. Becker, Ed.D. and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Professional School Counselor. I have been employed with my school district for 11 years and have been the counselor at the K-12 alternative public school. Prior to working at the school district I was in Private Practice as an LPC for 25 years. In addition, I also worked at the State Psychiatric Hospital for 13 years with my role being the Director of the Music Therapy and then as I attained my Master’s degree I worked as a Psychologist there. I also have experience working in the prison system as a Substance Abuse Counselor and then as the Director of a Substance Abuse Program in the prison. My degrees are: Bachelor of Music Education-Music Therapy from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; Master of Science in Counseling and Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri; Educational Specialist in Guidance and Counseling from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri; and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I also have various certifications and licensures: Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Professional School Counselor, Certified Substance Abuse Counselor, Diplomate in Psychotherapy, Certified Cognitive Behavior Therapist, and Registered Music Therapist. I am currently working on my Certified Trauma Specialist certification. I have three awesome children, six amazing grandchildren, and four wonderful furbabies! I have several hobbies that I don’t always have time for, but I love to read, crochet and play my accordion. I started playing the accordion when I was 5 years old. In high school and college I played in the Accordion Symphony. Google UMKC Accordion Orchestra and hear us play Gershwin! I also like playing word games on the computer. In my spare time I love to SLEEP!
