Joe Backman

Alpine School District


Dr. Joe Backman is the Director of Curriculum and Professional Development for Alpine School District (the largest district in Utah). He was the principal of Foothill Elementary School for four years where he lead Foothill to become a state-recognized STEAM school and a pilot for Alpine School District. He has lead the school and district to partner with universities, businesses, and to help schools network as multi-school PLCs. Foothill Elementary is a pilot school for the Alpine School District and the school's endeavors to deepen student learning and to build teachers' capacity will be implemented into all 57 elementary schools in the district over the next five years. Dr. Backman and his wife are proud parents of three wonderful boys. Dr. Backman received his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, and a Masters and PhD in Educational Leadership at BYU. Joe and his wife are proud parents of four wonderful boys.
