Rick Mihelic is president of Mihelic Vehicle Consulting LLC. He has 35 years of experience in engineering and project management, including 20 years in commercial vehicle development for Peterbilt developing aerodynamic vehicles and groundbreaking systems. These include the Peterbilt/Cummins Department of Energy SuperTruck and development and implementation of aerodynamic systems for compliance with the EPA Phase I Green House Gas Standards. Mihelic is an active SAE member and participant on aerodynamic SAE task forces and committees. He is also co-organizer for the SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress (COMVEC) Aerodynamics tracks annually 2013-2017. In addition, he is program manager on aerodynamics, co-authoring confidence reports on determining efficiency, tractor aerodynamics, trailer aerodynamics, and two-truck platooning at North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE). Mihelic is also an active ATA TMC member who has presented on future truck technologies. His product development experiences include full-scale drag and fuel consumption vehicle testing, scale wind tunnel testing, and computational fluid dynamics. Prior to Peterbilt, he had 12 years in advanced technology research and development programs for Lockheed with DOD, NASA, and DOE, including work on the NASA Space Shuttle Life Sciences program, the DOE SuperConducting Super Collider National Laboratory, and DOD Trident Missile Program.
