A native of Kentucky, LT Laura Cox enlisted in the Navy in 1997. She completed CTR “A” and “C” school and reported to Naval Security Group Activity, Northwest as a Direct Support Operator in Nov 1998. As a DIRSUP Op she completed deployments on the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), USS WASP (LHD 1), USNS IDOMITIABLE (T-AGOS 7), and HMS SHEFFIELD (F 96); supporting the Kosovo Campaign, Desert Fox, Counter Drug operations and the Global War On Terrorism. Following her DIRSUP tour she reported to USS BATAAN (LHD 5) where she deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In June 2004 she received orders to the newly created Navy Cyber Defense Operation Command, and worked as in trend analysis and policy development. During this tour she was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in September 2006. In July 2007 she reported to USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81) as the SSES Division Chief and supported deployments to C5F for Operation Enduring Freedom a short deployment to C4F to support Summit of Americas. CTRC Cox was selected for a commission under the Limited Duty Officer program and commissioned in April 2010. Following the completion of Mustang University in New Port, RI, ENS Cox reported to Naval Information Operations Command, Norfolk, VA and served at the Division Officer for the newly re-established Electronic Warfare Technical Guidance Unit. While assigned to NIOC Norfolk, LTJG Cox was selected for an Individual Augmentation to Afghanistan. From May 2012 to May 2013 she served as a Collection Manager for Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan. In September 2013, LT Cox reported to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) where she served as the Information Warfare Officer. She directly managed and oversaw numerous system upgrades and installs, making IKE the most technologically advanced CVN in the Fleet during an extended Dry-Dock Planned Incremental Availability (DPIA). Upon on completion of her sea tour on IKE she reported to Naval Information Forces, Suffolk, VA in Oct 2015. While working in the N74 division, she was selected to be on the of the founding members of the USFF directed stand-up of Naval Information Warfighting Development Center. She spearheaded the creation of the inaugural IW WTI Baseline Course, completed the Electronic Warfare Core and Strand training thus cumulating in her qualification as a Level 4 EW WTI. In September 2018, she reported to NIWDC West, San Diego, CA to complete her production tour. Her personal awards include Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, and. Navy Achievement Medal in addition to various unit, service and campaign awards.
