Brenda Haney has nearly 30 years of experience in civil engineering, with more than 20 of these years exclusively in solid waste management. For the City of Irving, Texas, she directs the activities of the solid waste services department, including refuse and recycling operations. She manages the Hunter Ferrell Landfill, a long-term civil engineering project, including working with outside consulting engineers on landfill construction and planning projects and preparing designs for the landfill. She also administers the expenditure of Bond funds and the Enterprise Fund Budget for the department. Prior to working for the City, Ms. Haney spent more than a decade in the private sector as a consultant for private companies and municipalities. She also has a technical background in water treatment and distribution, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste remediation and construction oversight. Ms. Haney has been an active member of SWANA continuously since 2000 and intermittently dating back to 1994. She has served as a director and in all officer positions for the Texas Lonestar Chapter, has hosted the state Road-E-O and annual conference, has been the WASTECON® Local Committee co-chair, and has been a member of the legislative committee. She has represented the Texas Lonestar Chapter as the International Board Representative and has served on the Finance Committee. Ms. Haney is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas and has a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.
