Marissa Perez-Dormitzer
District Recycling Coordinator
Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District, Massachusetts

Marissa Perez-Dormitzer has served as the district recycling coordinator for the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District in Massachusetts for 19 years. She works with the district’s two member communities—New Bedford & Dartmouth—to educate residents about waste reduction, implement new programs, and apply for and manage grants. In 2014, the City of New Bedford implemented an automated trash and single stream recycling program. Ms. Perez-Dormitzer led the outreach and education component of the new program. As a result of moving to the new system, 30 percent less trash is now produced and recycling has doubled. Ms. Perez-Dormitzer served as the project manager for MassDEP’s IQ Kit grant in both communities over the past two years. The goal of the IQ Kit is to increase the quality of curbside recyclables. Ms. Perez-Dormitzer graduated from Rutgers University with Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering.
