Prior to founding Recycle Across America® in 2010, Michelle “Mitch” Hedlund had more than 20 years of experience in communications and branding. She has relied on those disciplines when developing the society-wide standardized labeling system for recycling bins. Ms. Hedlund’s passion is to improve the economic viability of recycling and closed loop manufacturing to expedite environmental progress. She created the first and only society-wide standardized labeling system to achieve that goal. The standardized label solution has been deemed “a simple yet systemic world changing solution”, which led to her winning an Ashoka Global Fellowship. Ms Hedlund is a frequent contributor to articles on the subject of recycling and the environment. She is a national and international speaker, providing the keynote presentation at the European Union’s Environmental Summit in Brussels and the U.S. Zero Waste Conference. She has also been the chairperson for national conferences such as the American Packaging Summit.
