Colonel Moyer’s operational assignments began in 1992 when he was assigned as an analyst for the Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, 1st Marine Division. In 1993, Colonel Moyer reported for duty as the Scout-Sniper Platoon Commander and Battalion Intelligence Officer, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In 1996, he was transferred to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California where he served as a Series Commander for Recruit Training, as the Assistant Operations Officer for the Western Recruiting Region, and as the Company Commander for Service Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego. In 2003, Colonel Moyer was transferred to Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence for the 3rd Force Service Support Group.Returning to California, Colonel Moyer served as the Executive Officer, 1st Intelligence Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California and Al Anbar Province, Iraq from 2004-2006. From 2006-2008, Colonel Moyer served at the United States European Command’s Joint Analysis Center as the Division Chief, Middle East/North Africa and as the Assistant Director of Intelligence for Africa. He served concurrently as the United States Marine Corps Service Element Commander. In 2007, Colonel Moyer deployed to Afghanistan and served on the NATO International Security Assistance Force staff. From 2008-2010, Colonel Moyer served as the Battalion Commander, 1st Radio Battalion, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California. He deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq and Helmand Province, Afghanistan. From 2010-2011, Colonel Moyer attended the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy with follow on assignment as the as the Chief, Intelligence Plans and Policy, and as the Chief of Staff, Intelligence Department, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps from 2011-2014. Colonel Moyer commanded the Joint Intelligence Operations Center, United States Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Maryland from 2014-2016. Post command Col Moyer was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence for U.S. Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command, and in June of 2017 was transferred to Marine Forces Pacific to assume duties as the Director of Intelligence.
