Brigadier Karotam is an Australian Army officer, currently embedded as the Deputy Director for Intelligence at Headquarters US Indo-Pacific Command in Hawaii. Over the last thirty years Brigadier Karotam has served in a variety of intelligence roles including Commandant of Australia’s Defence Intelligence Training Centre, Director of Intelligence Plans at Australia’s Joint Operations Command, Officer Commanding Australia’s 1st Intelligence Company (HUMINT) and analyst appointments in Australia’s Defence Intelligence Organisation and the US Defense Intelligence Agency. Brigadier Karotam has also served as Australia’s Defence Attaché in Beijing and studied Mandarin at a Peoples Liberation Army University in Shanghai. Brigadier Karotam is a graduate of the Australian Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College Duntroon. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New South Wales, a Masters of Defence Studies from Canberra University and a Masters of International Relations from Deakin University. He graduated from Australian Command and Staff College in 2005 and the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies on 2017. Brigadier Karotam has undertaken operational tours in Timor Leste in 1999, as part of the International Force East Timor and Iraq in 2004-2005, as part of the Multinational Force Iraq.
