Catherine Sheane is a sustainability and resilience practice lead at the Parsons Corporation. Her specialties include: development and communication of sustainability strategy; managing sustainable project design, construction, and documentation; environmental cost-benefit analysis; life cycle assessment (LCA): carbon footprinting, and corporate social responsibility reporting. These skills are applied to vertical infrastructure (i.e. buildings) and horizontal infrastructure (i.e. transportation systems) alike, and include the successful implementation of sustainability certification frameworks, including, but not limited to the US Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system, the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Infrastructure Voluntary Evaluation Sustainability Tool (INVEST), and the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s (ISI) Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework. In addition to providing technical guidance to project teams to integrate sustainability into our work product, she serves on the Parsons Sustainability Working Group, participating in corporate sustainability strategy development, implementation, tracking, and reporting. Cat has developed and delivered in-house educational sessions on sustainability at Parsons and previous firms, provided LEED AP training through the local USGBC chapter in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and speaks publicly at conferences and community events. Cat holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Princeton University, with a focus on structures and mechanics, and a master’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, with a focus on sustainable infrastructure. She is also a licensed professional engineer with experience in structural condition inspection projects and design assignments for large-scale bridges and tunnels.
