Fred Peterson
Compliance Investigator
OSHA Englewood Area Office

Fred Peterson was first introduced to enforcing safety and health standards while assigned to various United States Air Force nuclear missile wings. He retired from the USAF in 2003 and moved to Boise, Idaho. From there, he worked for the Idaho Industrial Commission as a compliance investigator, and eventually led the investigations department. For the past ten years the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has benefited from his investigation and safety experiences in Idaho and Colorado area offices, and through specialized assignments to Hawai’i, and the Dakotas. He has investigated a broad spectrum of construction and general industry worksites involving severe and fatal injuries. Fred continues to protect America’s workforce through in-depth processing of complaints and on-site inspections. Fred has broadened his knowledge across hazardous industries such as pipeline, logging, grain processing, oil and gas, steelmaking, and Process Safety Management. His robust skills were applied during an electrical power generation, transmission and distribution investigation involving a high-voltage contact injury in rural, southern Colorado, the topic of this presentation.
