Lieutenant Commander Evan “Pooper” Young is a 2002 graduate of William Jewell College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He received his commission via Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL in 2003 and was designated a Naval Aviator in January of 2005. Lieutenant Commander Young’s operational assignments include Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HC) 4 in Sigonella, Sicily, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 22 in Norfolk, VA, USS San Diego (LPD 22) in San Diego, CA and HSC-23 in San Diego, CA. He has over 2,200 hours in the MH-60S, MH-53E, MQ-8B and fixed wing aircraft. Highlights include a combat tour flying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, work-ups on USS Freedom (LCS-1) for the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) initial proof of concept deployment, and being the Officer in Charge for the Navy’s first composite MQ-8B Radar capable Fire Scout and MH-60S detachment onboard USS Coronado (LCS 4) for her maiden deployment to Seventh Fleet. Lieutenant Commander Young’s shore assignments include a tour as a flight instructor with HSC-3 and he is currently serving his post Department Head tour as the MQ-8 Integrated Transition Team Lead. He works directly for the Commander of the HSC WING and is responsible for facilitating coordination between requirements officers, resource sponsors, tactical and training Subject Matter Experts, and supporting and operating forces to identify, prioritize, and resolve issues affecting the integration of the MQ-8 platform to the fleet. Lieutenant Commander Young’s personal awards include the Air Medal (Strike/Flight award), Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards), and various other unit commendations and service medals.
