Ryan is the CEO of Shield AI, a company backed by Andreessen Horowitz, one of Silicon Valley’s preeminent venture funds. Shield AI is working collaboratively with the Department of Defense to field the first artificially intelligent systems for service members on the front lines. The company produces Hivemind, an artificial intelligence that enables robots to see, reason about, and search the world. Shield AI presently offers a first-of-its-kind AI-powered drone that searches buildings while simultaneously streaming video and building maps. Shield AI’s robots can access and explore denied areas such as building interiors and caves to gather mission-critical, ground-level intelligence. The robots learn from and become more capable through their experience. Shield AI’s portfolio of technologies includes state-of-the-art approaches to perception, mapping, multi-robot systems, and learning. Prior to Shield AI, Ryan created numerous technologies that helped launch the modern wireless power industry. Technologies he and his teams created formed the cornerstone of a wireless charging standard that was adopted by 200 companies, including market leaders Samsung, Intel, Qualcomm, and Verizon. Ryan also led the development of a wireless charging product that was recognized by TIME magazine as a Top Ten Product of 2014, alongside the Tesla Model S, iPhone 6, and Oculus Rift. Ryan has 15 patents pending or issued. Ryan earned his MBA from MIT. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering.
