Tara Cook-Littman
Co-founder & Board Member
Citizens for GMO Labeling

In 2013, Tara spearheaded the effort to pass the first-in-the-nation GMO labeling law in Connecticut through the GMO Free CT campaign. Building upon that success, she was a founding member of “Citizens for GMO Labeling,” a non-profit group providing organizational and advocacy support to citizen activists working to pass similar bills around the country. Tara is now the Chairperson of Citizens for GMO Labeling and Political Director of ConnFACT (the CT based organization that grew from the roots of GMO Free CT).

Tara was recently the Campaign Director for the Democratic First Selectman of Fairfield, CT, Michael Tetreau. She led the winning campaign from April 2015 – November 2015. She was the Democratic endorsed candidate for the 134th State Representative District in 2013. For years, Tara has been a clear voice on key state and local issues including education, food & nutrition, environmental protection and hunger and homelessness. While 2013 was her first run for elected political office, her experience in public policy advocacy is well documented.

Prior to starting her family, Tara worked as a prosecutor in a trial division at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. This experience as an attorney gives her real life experience understanding how the legislative process affects both law enforcement professionals and citizens.

Tara graduated from Brandeis University with a BA in American Studies and minors in Journalism and Women’s Studies and received her JD from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where she graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Moot Court.

She currently lives in Fairfield, CT with her husband Owen and three children, Spencer (12), Ava (10) and Grace (8).
