Spike Gjerde is the Chef and Co-owner of Woodberry Kitchen, Artifact Coffee, Shoo-Fly and Parts & Labor all located in Baltimore where he seeks to preserve the rich culinary traditions of the Chesapeake region and showcase the varied ingredients grown and raised in the area. A vocal champion of the local and sustainable food movement, he helps further the cause of local growers with his modern Chesapeake cuisine and his commitment to resurrecting long-forgotten regional ingredients. Spike's efforts have garnered him features in notable food publications such as Food & Wine, The New York Times, Garden & Gun, The Art of Eating and The Washington Post. In 2013, he and his wife, Amy Gjerde, were chosen as honorees for Martha Stewart Living’s American Made awards, an program spotlighting key innovators in the fields of food, style, design and crafts. Spike is the 2015 James Beard Foundation’s “Best Chef, Mid-Atlantic” award winner.
