LtCol Barian A. Woodward is a Marine Corps Communications Officer. He is currently serving as the Commanding Officer, Communication Training Battalion, Marine Corps Communication Electronics School, located in Twentynine Palms, CA. The battalion is responsible for entry level and skills progression training for all communication military occupational fields, officer and enlisted alike. Previously, he served as a Cyber Defense Capabilities Officer, J8 Directorate, U.S. Strategic Command where he worked on various cyber defense initiatives to include in depth research into cyber situational awareness. He has also served as Detachment Commander, Marine Detachment, Fort Gordon where he was responsible for the training of all Marine Corps SATCOM operators and maintainers as well as providing administrative support for Marines attending other service courses aboard Fort Gordon. Barian enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1991 and was subsequently commissioned as an officer after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University in 1998. He has served in a multitude of communication staff and commanding officer billets from the platoon to combatant command levels with deploying combat operational forces and supporting establishment units. In addition to being a graduate of Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and Joint & Combined Warfighting School, LtCol Woodward is also a graduate of the U.S. Army FA24 – Telecommunications Systems Engineering Course.
