SUZI GUARDIA

BLUE STAR FAMILIES

Suzi Guardia is the Blue Star Families Senior Advisor for Neighborhood Engagement. In this role, Ms. Guardia directs BSF’s arts programming and cultural partnerships including Blue Star Books, Blue Star Museums, Blue Star Parks and Blue Star Theatres. In addition, she oversees our Caregivers Programs and Neighbor engagement efforts including the annual Blue Star Neighbors Award, our DIY Neighbor Kits, and additional programs connecting civilian organizations in support of military families. Prior to assuming this role, Ms. Guardia served as the Education Director at a series of museums and arts centers throughout the mid Atlantic. In those roles she led each organization’s education staff and volunteers in developing new strategies to engage the public both at the museum site and beyond its walls through new technology and social media channels. She has worked collaboratively with poets, scientists, dancers, artists, musicians and authors to bring the cultural fields together to benefit the larger community. Ms. Guardia believes that community is created at cultural organizations and that these institutions are, and will continue to be, important places of connection and support for military families. Ms. Guardia earned her B.A. Magna Cum Laude at Brown University and her M.A. at the Winterthur Museum, specializing in American Decorative Arts. She has spoken extensively at museum conferences across the country on new educational initiatives, strategic partnerships and engaging underserved populations. She enjoys the opportunity to bring her passion for the arts and humanities to the military families she serves in this role. She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband and two children.
