CDR Thompson was raised in San Marcos,California. He received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in 1997. His sea tours include duty onboard USS GEORGE PHILIP (FFG 12) from 1998-2000 where he served as Damage Control Assistant and First Lieutenant. 2000-2002 he served onboard USS CAPE ST GEORGE (CG 71) as Strike Officer and Navigator. 2004-2007 he served onboard USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG 53) as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. 2013-2016 he served onboard USS CHAFEE (DDG 90) as Executive Officer and then Commanding Officer. CDR Thompson’s tours ashore include Naval Postgraduate School where he earned a Master’s Degree in Financial Management; Ballistic Missile Defense Syndicate Lead at Tactical Training Group Pacific; Ballistic Missile Defense Training Officer at Third Fleet; Joint Interface Control Officer at Headquarters U.S. European Command (J3); C4ISR Operations Branch Chief at U.S Strategic Command, Joint Force Component Command Global Strike (J6). He is currently assigned as Branch Head N8/9 to Headquarters Surface and Mine Warfare Development Center. CDR Thompson’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (4 awards); Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and service awards. CDR Thompson is married to the former Miss Darcy Linn Stuart of Lincoln, Nebraska. They have three children, Cory, Cali, and Lexi.
