David S. Grierson completed his Ph.D. in 2008 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) under the supervision of Prof. Robert Carpick and Prof. Pupa Gilbert, and was subsequently a postdoctoral associate with Prof. Kevin Turner in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UW-Madison. David is an expert in AFM-based nanomechanics and nanotribology, scanning-probe-based nanometrology, and nanomembrane-based transfer processes. David has 15+ peer-reviewed journal publications in these areas. systeMECH, LLC was co-founded by David in 2011 in order to develop and commercialize innovative and scalable small-scale manufacturing processes based on semiconductor bonding and layer transfer. systeMECH has been awarded OSD-funded Phase I and Phase II STTR awards and an NSF-funded Phase I STTR award to develop novel techniques and tools for rapid and high-yield transfer of 2-D materials and structures onto flexible substrates. David is chief technology officer and also manages day-to-day operations at systeMECH.
