LtCol Kawada began his military career enlisting in the U.S. Naval Reserve in February 1987 as an Aviation Support Equipment mechanic, NAS Glenview, IL. A Chicago, IL native, he attended Indiana University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Psychology (Double Major) in May, 1992 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps on 14 August 1992 via the Officers Candidate Class Program. As an EA-6B Prowler, Electronic Countermeasures Officer (ECMO) he “earned” the call-sign “Squeel,” and completed numerous operational deployments to Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a graduate of the USMC Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) School, earned his Master’s of Military Studies degree from the USMC Command and Staff College and is a graduate of the U.S. Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA. In March, 2012 until August 2015, he served in the Pentagon as the OPNAV N98, EA-6B and MAGTF EW Requirements Officer and Resource Sponsor working the transition of USMC Electronic Warfare from a low density/high demand aviation capability, to a high density/on demand air and ground, system of systems strategy, supporting the Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF). In Sept 2015, LtCol Kawada reported to his current duty station as the MAGTF Electronic Warfare, Offensive Cyberspace Operations, Information Operations Branch Head, Information Warfare Integration Division (IWID), Combat Development and Integration (CD&I), Headquarters, United States Marine Corps, Quantico, VA. Here he has continued to build the MAGTF EW system of systems framework with an expanded focus to operationalizing the Information Environment by developing capabilities that enhance the Marine Corps single-battle concept, provide synchronized defensive, offensive and exploitative effects, increase operational tempo and enable the MAGTF to fight and win in a contested information environment.
