Meat Merchandiser Supervisor Driven and dedicated, Mark Salerno was cut out for the meat industry from day one. He started his career forty-five years ago, running the meat, deli and seafood departments at Acme Supermarkets growing from department manager to managing twenty stores. He became the Senior Meat Buyer and Merchandiser, overseeing all the buying and merchandising for 64 stores, from meat to deli and seafood provisions. Mark brought his knowledge to the ShopRite Supermarkets, Inc. in 1993 as the Meat & Seafood Merchandising Manager, where he focused on advertising and marketing programs to maximize sales. He transitioned into the role of Meat Merchandiser at Wakefern Food Corporation in 1999, where his responsibilities included conducting business reviews, working to help stores increase gross profit and decrease shrink, opening and remodeling stores. In 2015, he made the shift to his most current role at Wakefern Food Corporation as the Meat Merchandiser Supervisor, responsible for maintaining QA standards, developing shrink plans and creating high-performing plan-o grams. His analytical skills are second to none, making him superb at reviewing industry trends to determine the products that Wakefern Food Corporation carries, as well as how these products are merchandised in the stores. His work also goes beyond the ShopRite banner; he works closely with Price Rite Marketplace and The Fresh Grocer on product selection and merchandising layouts. Mark’s expertise and knowledge of the industry have made him well suited to educate meat associates at Wakefern Food Corporation and ShopRite, helping stores develop superior meat cutters. He has created numerous videos and tutorials that became the source for training classes for store Meat Managers, Associates, and Owners on how to run efficient meat departments.
