Cherie Phipps National Director, Retail Management Certificate Cherie Phipps is the founding director the nationally recognized community college education program called the Retail Management Certificate. Phipps has served the retail grocery industry her entire career, since she bagged groceries for a So. CA. grocer. Her career path included operations management, and lead roles in Labor Relations and Human Resources. Her expertise in leadership development and succession planning inspired the development of the original Retail Management Certificate Program in the year 2000. Developed in collaboration with the Western Association of Food Chains, Cherie Phipps is the catalyst behind the design and delivery of this vital competency-based credit-bearing credential, overseeing the community college curriculum/learning outcomes, and working closely with retailers across the nation to prepare workers for advancement and cultivate leadership at all levels. Phipps education path began with bachelor's degrees in both Psychology and Sociology. She later earned her certificate in Food Industry Management (FIM) from University of Southern California (USC), and an MBA (emphasis Organizational Leadership), also from USC’s Marshall School of Business. Cherie also has a lifetime teaching credential in business/industrial management with CA Community Colleges.
