Kate Fitzgerald has worked at the local, state and national levels designing and implementing programs that increase access to affordable, nutritious food for low-income consumers. Kate initiated the Food Assistance Programs in the Texas Department of Agriculture in 1988 and founded the Sustainable Food Center in Austin, TX in 1993. Now based in Washington, DC, her most recent work has focused on including funding for healthy fruit and vegetable incentive programs in the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bills. She serves on the Board of the Common Market and Advisory Boards of the Crossroads Community Food Network and Foundation for Food and Agriculture Urban Agriculture Committee.
