John Steiner has served as the Joint Force Headquarters–Department of Defense Information Networks (JFHQ-DODIN) Chief of Staff since Dec 2014. He has gained approval of JFHQ-DODIN Full Operational Capability (FOC) criteria and has established the approach to achieve FOC and sustain readiness, while maturing the operational processes necessary for sustained synchronized defensive cyber operations across the DoD Components. Prior to joining JFHQ-DODIN, Mr. Steiner served as the DISA Deputy, Test & Evaluation Executive; where he provided direction in solving complex problems associated with operational testing of enterprise services and with operational test and evaluation in the defensive cyber domain. Before joining DISA in 2013, Mr. Steiner worked in academia at Johns Hopkins University, Applied Physics Laboratory in its Asymmetric Operations Department primarily supporting the DoD CIO and USD (AT&L). Mr. Steiner is a retired Naval Officer. His military career highlights includes assignments in the Fifth Fleet, supporting counter-piracy and carrier strike group combat operations, combat operations in Afghanistan, and as a resource sponsor at the Navy’s headquarters staff. He served on the Joint Staff, supporting the DoD’s initial net-centric capability portfolio management efforts, leading pilot efforts to leverage web 2.0 technologies, and in reshaping the Joint Staff to support emerging cyberspace operations concepts.
