Karl Zimmerman




Karl is a 37 year veteran of the fire service whose career began at 15 years old as a volunteer firefighter and ALS provider in his local community. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he joined the Baltimore City (MD) Fire Department and spent the past 26 years in suppression, special rescue operations, hazardous materials response, and as an instructor. Karl currently serves as deputy chief of field operations for D-Shift. He serves as a deputy incident commander for the Type 3 Baltimore Regional Incident Management Team, incident commander of the Type 4 Baltimore City Fire Department incident Management team, and as the plans manager on the Central Maryland Taskforce 2 Urban Search and Rescue Team. Karl was the on-duty shift commander responsible for field operations on April 25, 2015 and April 27, 2015 during the height of Baltimore’s civil unrest.
