As Director of Planning, John Leehey, ASLA, APA, manages both national and international planning projects at JZMK. His expertise in master planning communities, urban design, landscape architecture and completing project entitlements enhances JZMK’s long history of physical planning and architectural services. John has substantial experience working on a global scale, living and working in many of the world’s most complex environments, bringing a modern and international urban perspective to JZMK’s planning department. At the same time his domestic experience has included planning and management of numerous master planned communities all over the US, most notably his long term project management of Ladera Ranch in South Orange County CA, winner of numerous awards and accolades. John has a unique skill-set that bridges the complexity of architecture, planning and landscape architecture to create the best possible plan for project design, authenticity and function. His experience complements JZMK Partners growing multi-family and urban infill specialty. John holds a Masters Degree from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, and an undergraduate degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, both in Landscape Architecture. He is a licensed Landscape Architect and an active member in many industry organizations including the Urban Land Institute, APA, ASLA and BIA. He is an active lecturer at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, PCBC, and at ULI Real Estate Forums. He is committed to a high standard of planning development, and enjoys challenges and collaborations that continually provide substantial benefit to his clients.
