James Starr began his professional career in the gaming industry with Cherokee Nation Enterprises in Oklahoma. As gaming began proliferating across the country and flourishing specifically in Oklahoma, he worked his way up from Accountant to General Manager of several gaming facilities and on to become Vice President of Gaming for Cherokee Nation Enterprises. In this capacity, Starr oversaw the gaming operations of three facilities with more than 1,000 gaming devices and 600 employees. He joined VGT in 2005 and is currently the President of Video Gaming Technologies, An Aristocrat Company. In his current role he’s responsible for managing the VGT Class II business for Aristocrat. Video Gaming Technologies has over 23,000 Class II Electronic Gaming Machines in the United States. During his tenure in the gaming industry, Starr has been actively involved in the evolution of Class II bingo from paper bingo and pull-tabs to technological aids and eventually the introduction of video and mechanical reel gaming devices. He served as the Vice Chairman for the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association, alternate delegate to the National Indian Gaming Association Executive Committee, and as a member of the National Indian Gaming Association sub-committee for the Economic Impact Study on Indian Gaming. He was awarded the OIGA Chairman’s Warrior’s Award for Lifetime Achievement as a Champion in the cause of Oklahoma Indian Gaming in 2010. Starr is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Finance/Business Administration and also has a B.S. degree in Accounting from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.
