Since 1979, Kate Dernocoeur, NREMT, has written numerous books, articles and columns, including many for JEMS. The 4th edition of her seminal book, Streetsense: Communication, Safety and Control was released last year. Starting in EMS in 1974, she served with Denver’s famous Paramedic Division from 1979 to 1986. She retired from the fire service in 2019 (Ada, Michigan FD). She is currently a SARTECH-II (Kent County SAR’s K9 Unit) and a Medical Death Investigator for Ionia County (MI).
