Renee Thelen
Director of Special Education
Clinton County RESA
Renee Thelen is a School Psychologist by training and the current Director of Special Education & Communications for Clinton County RESA. She holds a Masters and Specialist degree from Central Michigan University and also completed the Special Education Supervisor and Director programs at Grand Valley State University. Renee worked for 7 years as a School Psychologist and Instructional Consultation Team Facilitator. In the fall of 2008, she began her administrative career and has worked as the Special Education Director for Portland Public Schools, Lakewood Public Schools, and also as the Director of Accountability and Program Improvement for Ionia County Intermediate School District. Renee has invested in statewide and national work to support those in the field. She has held numerous leadership roles with the Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE), including serving as President for two years and co-facilitating the first-ever collaborative event with MAASE and the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA). She also co-facilitates a statewide professional learning community for school-based Board Certified Behavior Analysts and serves as a member of the PD committee for the National Council for Administrators of Special Education (CASE). She has presented at statewide and national conferences and to both undergraduate and graduate-level training programs. Renee is passionate about maximizing student outcomes through intentional staff development and coaching and the utilization of meeting facilitation skills to develop high-quality, data-driven individualized plans for students.
