Joe Kwisz
Executive Director
Old National Trail
Outside of his experiences in Administration, Joe was a teacher for students with emotional disabilities, and a high school head football coach. Having entered the field of education through a transition to teaching program, Joe received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University in Telecommunications with an emphasis in Sales and Management, Master’s Degree from Marian University (Indianapolis Teaching Fellows Cohort 1), and Director of Exceptional Needs License from Indiana University, Bloomington. Joe is in his fourteenth year serving as a Special Education Administrator. As the immediate Past-President for Indiana CASE, Joe focused on providing sustainable leadership development opportunities for members to promote lasting careers in special education, and help combat the burnout our profession can experience. During his time as President-Elect for Indiana CASE, Joe designed a State Board of Education approved Transition to Teaching program for educators to add special education mild and intense intervention endorsements to their license at no cost. This innovative solution to help fight the special education teacher shortage is provided to educators over eleven months, is aligned to the CEC standards, and has put over 500 additional special education licenses in the field in just three years. The Aspiring Statewide Special Education Teacher (ASSET) program is a service that Indiana CASE is proud to offer. Full program information can be found at icase.org/asset. Professionally, Joe places a high priority on trust, humor, and building strong relationships with colleagues around the state and country. He believes that no option is off the table when providing services for students with exceptional needs. Serving as the Indiana CASE President is a privilege that Joe is honored to fill. Personally, Joe enjoys maintaining physical fitness, fishing and boating with his family, and coaching multiple sports for his daughters.
