Michael F. Hock, Ph.D., is the Director of KUCRL, Senior Research Scientist, and Courtesy Assistant Professor in KU’s Department of Special Education. Dr. Hock has successfully directed numerous research and development efforts with adolescents and adults in literacy-based programs and has experience in designing and validating instructional strategies to improve outcomes for struggling students. He has had significant experience conducting multiple baseline designs in studies conducted at the KUCRL (e.g., Bulgren, Hock, Schumaker, & Deshler, 1994; Hock, 1998; Hock, Pulvers, Deshler, & Schumaker, 2001). He has provided support and leadership to ensure that the project’s research teams fulfill WWC standards for the studies. Dr. Hock has successfully directed multiple research and development efforts with adolescents and adults in literacy-based programs and has experience in designing and validating instructional strategies to improve outcomes for struggling students. He has experience overseeing project management and monitoring staff performance to ensure that (a) priority tasks are identified and addressed, (b) timelines are adhered to, (c) close communications exist among all project and site staff, and (d) all activities are carried out according to proposed specifications. Dr. Hock has published multiple articles and chapters on literacy in journals such as the Journal of Learning Disabilities, Learning Disabilities Quarterly, Journal of Psychology Education, and Journal of Staff Development.
