Melissa Denton

Narragansett School System
Dr. Melissa Denton began her career in special education in 1990. During her career, she has been a special educator, induction coach, RI Dept of Education fellow, special education administrator, and adjunct professor. Her current positions are Director of Student Services for the Narragansett School System in Rhode Island and adjunct professor at Johnson and Wales University. She is the President Elect of the Association of Rhode Island Administrators of Special Education/ RI CASE Chapter. In addition to this role, she serves on the mentoring committee, advocates for legislation, and coordinates statewide professional learning opportunities in partnership with RIDE. Dr. Denton was honored as the 2025 Rhode Island Special Education Administrator of the Year. She loves to provide professional development in the areas of SDI, IEP development, and co-teaching. Throughout her career, she has had the opportunity to present both nationally and locally on these topics. Dr. Denton is proud to be a member of the first CASE Special Education Leadership Institute Cohort.
