Eugene Matejek
Special Education Coordinator
Greenwich Public Schools

Eugene Matejek is a Special Education Coordinator for the Greenwich Public Schools and is in his 28th year as an educator. For the first 10 years of his career, he was a classroom teacher, primarily in grades 3, 4, and 5. As a classroom teacher, he and his team created units of study using the backward design model and facilitated inquiry-based lessons that focused on learning through big ideas at an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. Mr. Matejek then transitioned to the role of IB Coordinator at another elementary school in the district, where he was tasked with guiding the staff and the overall school community toward IB authorization. In this role, he worked with teachers to implement the IB program, ultimately supporting the school in achieving IB accreditation. Following this, Mr. Matejek served as an assistant principal for 14 years across three different schools. In addition to overseeing the daily operations of the school and ensuring a safe and effective learning environment, one of his primary responsibilities was providing leadership in the implementation of special education. This experience ultimately led him to his current position as Special Education Coordinator. Mr. Matejek holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, a Master of Arts in Teaching, and a Sixth Year degree in Educational Leadership.
