Martha Stroud
Exceptional Children's Specialist
Nash County Public Schools
Martha Stroud is a dedicated and passionate educator with over 23 years of experience in the field. After ten years as a classroom teacher for students with mild to moderate disabilities, she transitioned the role of Exceptional Children’s Program Specialist with Nash County Public Schools. For the past 13 years, Martha has worked collaboratively with special education teachers, service providers, and administrators to support implementation of high quality programs and services and compliance with state and federal policy and procedures. In response to growing teacher shortages in NC and nationwide, supporting beginning special education teachers in NCPS became a primary focus of Martha’s role in 2017. Since that time, she has been involved in initiatives aimed at recruiting, supporting, and retaining SPED teachers through professional development, mentorship, and building a collaborative community. Martha strongly believes that tiered, targeted and on-going support is critical to retention of skilled educators, and essential for ensuring positive outcomes for students with special needs.
