Carlton Williams, a native Philadelphian, has been a leader with the City of Philadelphia for over 17 years. He has served as a public servant for three major city departments including Parks and Recreation, Licenses and Inspections and The Department of Streets where his is now the Commissioner. As the Commissioner of the Philadelphia Streets Department, he oversees Philadelphia’s municipal solid waste and recycling programs as well as highway and traffic services. The city has made significant progress since Carlton joined the Streets Department especially with the city’s municipal curbside recycling program. Since joining the Streets Department, the city’s recycling diversion rate has jumped from 6% to nearly 20% during his tenure. His department plays a key role in the new Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet created by Mayor Kenney in December of 2016. The cabinet is focused on eliminating litter and reducing waste to landfill and incinerators by 2035.
