Debra’s role for the past two years has been to develop and oversee a recycling and organics diversion outreach strategy for New York City. This includes budgetary and contractual matters, as well as managing high-level relationships with key strategic partners to advance DSNY zero waste goals. She provides extensive direction and support to staff to help ensure the operational and programmatic success of all unit campaigns. She oversees funding and work scope of partner organizations and institutions that work with DSNY to advance many waste diversion campaigns. Previously she was deputy director for the DSNY Bureau of Recycling and Sustainability, a program manager for the NYC compost project, and a director of volunteers for the Riverside Park Fund. She has a Bachelors’ degree in religion and political science from Hampshire College, a Master’s degree in Judaic studies from the Jewish Theological Seminary, and a Master’s degree in environmental management systems from the Pratt Institute.
