Scott Cochran is the Advanced Manufacturing Lead for Commercial Civil Space Advanced Programs (AP). His current primary focus within AP is on additive manufacturing of metallic systems for space applications including propulsion systems and commodities storage, as well as insertion of advanced manufacturing techniques within the Commercial Civil Space line of business. Scott joined Lockheed Martin in June of 2013 as a Materials Engineer after graduating Summa Cum Laude with his master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in December of 2012. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in May of 2010. Scott spent the first 6 years of his professional career at the Lockheed Martin Materials Technology Laboratory where he led the Materials Engineering group within the lab prior to joining the Advanced Programs group in mid-2019. He has supported all LM Space programs, LM Space and Corporate internal research and development programs, and provided occasional testing and metallurgy-related support to all portions of Lockheed Martin, including LM Aeronautics, LM Rotatory Mission Systems, and LM Missiles and Fire Control. Throughout his career at Lockheed Martin has been recognized as a metallurgy subject matter expert and innovator, with a special focus on superalloy metallurgy, additive manufacturing, and advanced materials testing. Scott’s near future work includes shaping and leading research investments to strengthen and mature advanced manufacturing technologies in support of the Human Lunar Lander and development of Lunar Exploration economy, as well as supporting the implementation of new technologies and fundamental research on the leading edge of metallurgy and materials science.
