Mr. John J. Zipay has worked at the NASA – Johnson Space Center for the past 35 years. For the past ten years, Mr. Zipay has been the Deputy Branch Chief of the Structures Branch supervising 30 structural engineers who are supporting the International Space Station, Orion, Commercial Crew, Gateway and Human Lunar Systems Programs. Prior to that, Mr. Zipay supported the Tile Damage Assessment Team and Return-To-Flight Activities after the Columbia Accident. Mr. Zipay was the first lead structural engineer on the International Space Station Program and in that capacity he traveled all over the world during DDT&E of the ISS to make sure that all of the ISS structural elements were properly designed, analyzed and tested. Mr. Zipay graduated from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn in 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering. He acquired a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston in 1999.
