Justin James was tabbed to be the new head coach of the Point Loma baseball program in July 2018. James returns to his alma mater after two seasons as the pitching coach at UC San Diego. Prior to his time at UCSD, James was the lead assistant coach at PLNU from 2010-16. During his run with UC San Diego, the Tritons accomplished back-to-back World Series Appearances, including national runner-up in 2017. Four pitchers were drafted in his two seasons, and last year UCSD broke the school-record for strikeouts with 528, finishing fourth nationally. While at Point Loma, James helped guide the Point Loma pitching staff to top 10 national rankings in earned run average, WHIP, strikeout-to-walk ratio and fewest walks allowed per 9 innings. James started his coaching career at New Mexico Highlands University.
