Mike Matheny was hired as a special adviser for player development by the Kansas City Royals in November 2018. In his role, Matheny will assist in several aspects of baseball operations including scouting and development. Matheny spent seven years managing the St. Louis Cardinals going 591-474 and became the first manager in MLB history to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first four seasons.
