Cliff Sweatte




Cliff Sweatte is a Senior Policy Advisor at Akin Gump where he advises clients on drone policy, regulation, safety and technical components in the development of UAS programs and serves on ICAO’s UAS Task Force for Humanitarian Aid as co-chairman. Previously, Cliff served as an Aviation Officer for The World Food Programme’s drone initiative based in Rome, Italy providing technical expertise and drafting policies for RPAS stakeholders for humanitarian air cargo missions. Cliff’s former role as a technical officer at ICAO included Secretary of the UAS Advisory Group, formed to develop guidance and best practices for global drone programs including the UTM initiatives at the DRONE ENABLE symposiums. Formerly, a FAA Aviation Safety Inspector and Program Manager for their UAS Pathfinder BVLOS operations in the Arctic and for BNSF Railway, enabling the USA’s first civil, commercial BVLOS UAS operations. Prior to joining the FAA, Cliff flew as an international air carrier pilot where he also served as an airline union leader. He is also a licensed Remote Pilot.
