Steve is the CEO of NuGen, which is developing the NuGen Engine™, an advanced nuclear small modular reactor (SMR) on which a patent is pending. Steve is the inventor on the patent application for the NuGen Engine™, as well as two earlier patents on advanced SMRs which were granted in 2005 and 2006. In addition to his work in the nuclear energy field since 2001, Steve was a corporate attorney in Charlotte, NC in the Kennedy Covington law firm and its successor, the international law firm of K&L Gates, from which he retired in 2016 so that he could devote more efforts to NuGen. Before then, Steve clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and served in the U.S. Army with tours in Vietnam and Germany. Steve graduated with a B.S. from West Point, where he studied nuclear engineering, and from the George Washington University Law School where he was editor-in-chief of the law review.
