Karen Puckett is the Director of the Center for Environmental Excellence at the University of Texas at Arlington. She oversees the university’s programs that provide consulting services, field work, project management, and staffing in a broad range of environmental disciplines for clients such as the Environmental Protection Agency and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. She previously served as the Director of Workplace Safety with the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation. She was responsible for the agency’s occupational injury, illness, and fatality prevention programs, including the Occupational Safety and Health Consultation (OSHCON) program, safety training and education, data collection for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, insurance company accident prevention services compliance inspections, and safety violation investigations. She served as an Advisory Committee member of the National Safety Council’s Our Driving Concern Texas Employer Traffic Safety Program and a member of the Texas Department of State Health Services Texas Occupational Health Surveillance Program’s Strategic Planning Group. Prior to her work at DWC, Karen held operational and public relations roles in the medical supply distribution and non-profit industries. Karen has a bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX.
