Nathan Stanford
Computer Science Teacher and Robotics Coach
Bullis School
Stefi Gogerty and Nathan Stanford teach an interdisciplinary music theory and computer science course at Bullis School. They were accepted to the Performamatics workshop at UMass Lowell funded by the NSF Grant and created a high school course, Sound Design and Programming. Capitalizing on student interest in creativity and collaboration, Stefi and Nathan use Project Based Learning to introduce students to foundational coding concepts through the vehicle of musical instruction. This introductory STEAM course requires no prior knowledge and is a great stepping stone to Coding and Computer Music courses. Working in partners, Sound Design and Programming targets 9th and 10th graders who may shy away from technology courses.
